Mr CARROLL (Niddrie—Minister for Public Transport, Minister for Roads and Road Safety) (12:25): I rise to update the house on the delivery of important road projects that are keeping Victorians moving, creating thousands of jobs and supporting our important economic recovery. Last year’s budget invested a massive $1.6 billion in upgrades to local roads, road maintenance as well as important road safety projects. These projects stretch right across our great state from the Great Ocean Road to Robinvale to the suburbs of Melbourne. They also complement our important city-shaping $70 billion Big Build transportation agenda. This will ensure motorists and public transport users have easier and safer journeys as well as creating thousands of jobs. We are also getting on with the job of delivering a very important maintenance program right across our state that will see the Frankston-Flinders Road, the Commercial Road in Koroit as well as the McIvor Highway near Bendigo all upgraded with valuable and important infrastructure.

The coronavirus pandemic has not only impacted but has also altered the way Melburnians and indeed Victorians move around. That is why right across our great city we are installing hundreds of new CCTV cameras, wireless sensors and visual message boards not only to keep Melburnians and Victorians moving but to make sure that our traffic moves as well. I am also pleased to inform the house that in the coming weeks we will commence delivery of 100 new road safety projects, and I want to compliment the Deputy Prime Minister and the commonwealth for their joint partnership with Victoria to get on with delivering these important projects. I also thank the Deputy Prime Minister for his bipartisanship and his support on the rollout of road safety barriers right across this state. Why? He also knows that they save lives. It is a very important program. The Andrews Labor government is supporting Victorians on the road to recovery. These transportation projects not only create jobs and improve safety; they help us build back better and come back better safely on our public transport network and our road network.
