Members Statement: Buckley Park College 50th Anniversary

Mr CARROLL (Niddrie) —

I rise to congratulate Buckley Park College on 50 years service to the community of
Moonee Valley, from 1963 to 2013. I had the pleasure of attending the college’s
50th anniversary festival held on Saturday, 12 October. We had
perfect spring weather for a wonderful celebration, which included more than
30 market stalls, live music, classic cars and, most importantly, a walk
through 50 years of history. Friends of Buckley Park and the Essendon
Historical Society were wonderful supporters and did their part to help make
the day the success that it was.

A highlight of the day was having former school leaders and past principals of the college in attendance, including Murrell Osborne, Duncan Brookes and Tony Tartaro. Former principal Laurel Grossman sent her best wishes from Hong Kong. In fact it was Tony
Tartaro who, following my election as state member for Niddrie in March 2012,
organised a morning tea for me to meet the staff, teachers and students at the
school. This was an early and clear demonstration to me of the culture and
sense of community at Buckley Park College. Having now met the new and current
principal, Nathan Chisholm, I have no doubt that the foundations are there for
another successful 50 years of service to the local community. I make special mention of Richard Jones, assistant principal of curriculum, and Louise Gaynor, secondary teachers assistant and partnerships coordinator, who were instrumental in organising and making the jubilee celebration such a success.
