$10 million for Essendon Keilor College
On Sunday, July 13, Ben was joined by Opposition Leader Daniel Andrews at Essendon Keilor College’s Niddrie campus to announce that a Labor Government will deliver $10 million to rebuild the school.
EKC is the state’s most run down, with an Education Department audit finding more than 1300 items needing to be fixed, and Liberal Education Minister Martin Dixon himself has described it as “not safe”. Yet the Napthine Government has refused to deliver the funding needed at the school for four years.
In his inaugural speech, Ben described getting funding for EKC as his “immediate task”, and described the announcement as a huge win after “four budgets and four strikes” from the Liberal Government.
Daniel Andrews told those assembled that “you can’t get a first rate education in a second rate classroom”, with the funding to EKC coming as one of numerous education announcements across Victoria by the Labor leader.
Labor’s $10 million pledge renews the promise Labor made to the school community in 2010. It will see the Niddrie campus fully rebuilt, as well as new science rooms at East Keilor and a new performing arts centre at the Essendon campus.
